Product # GLF032-01-01

The Green Rescue Laser Flare® was awarded Ocean Navigator Magazine's 2013 Chuck Husick Marine Technology Award.

November 6, 2013

Ocean Navigator magazine awarded Greatland Laser the 2013 Chuck Husick Marine Technology Award
for its Green Rescue Laser Flare® signaling device. The annual award recognizes great technology products used in the marine environment.

Greatland’s Rescue Lasers are designed to signal in an emergency by creating a line of light. Point the compact Rescue Laser Flare® at a wall and you see a short line. Point and slowly sweep it toward a passing boat or aircraft and the line is 3,600 feet high at ten miles....appearing as a brilliant flash of light.
Best of all, Rescue Lasers last for hours, are environmentally safe, and there is no fire hazard.

The Rescue Laser Flare® can also be used to detect reflective material on life jackets, channel markers, and other objects up to a mile away. When the laser line is scanned over reflective elements it produces a bright flash of light.

When it comes to saving lives, anything less than the best is not an option. The all-new Firefly PRO rescue strobe lights are the brightest and most feature-packed strobe lights on the market today. With three activation functions, toggle between the ultra-bright strobe or the SOS strobe to visually alert Search and Rescue of your location, then toggle to the Steady-On feature for close-up recovery operations.

Our innovative new wide light emission LEDs produce a 360° beam of light (41 candela) allowing for visibility of over 3.5 miles. Our cool white light has no yellow tinting which allows for a more visible light beam that can be seen at greater distances.  With an energy efficient microprocessor and redesigned electronics, the Firefly PRO boasts maximum operation life in the harshest of conditions.  With a single set of AA alkaline batteries, the Firefly PRO will continuously strobe for over 56 hours or use the Steady-On feature for 28 hours. That is twice as long as our competitors and exceeds USCG and SOLAS requirements by over 48 hours.

The new compact size will easily fit inside an inflatable life jacket or pocket for comfortable wear-ability.  The military spec casing is rugged enough to withstand years of abuse and the harshest environments.  The two lashing loops and included Velcro strap make mounting the Firefly PRO to your life jacket, belt or pack extremely easy so that the strobe light can be readily accessible the moment you need it.

Federal Law allows an EXCEPTION for laser emergency signaling devices to send a distress signal to aircraft.

In February 2012, the United States Congress passed into law HR658 authorizing appropriations for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for fiscal years 2011 through 2014.  Included in the law is Section 311 "Prohibition Against Aiming a Laser Pointer at an Aircraft".  Section 311 39A(c)(3) on page 56 specifically exempts "an individual using a laser emergency signaling devices to send an emergency distress signal."  Greatland Laser has sold its patented laser emergency signaling devices throughout the world for over 10 years.  We have never had a safety issue with the products.  Under the exception provided in this federal law, Rescue Lasers are legal to signal an aircraft for help in an emergency.
